Alabama A&M women’s basketball duo nets weekly SWAC honors

NORMAL — Alabama A&M University women’s basketball players Rakiyah Beal and Kalia Walker picked up Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

Beal repeated as the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Week, averaging 31.6 minutes in two games. She recorded 12.5 points, 3.5 boards, 2 steals and 1 assist per game. Beal paced the Bulldogs versus Richmond, scoring 16 points, along with three boards, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.

Walker was selected the SWAC’s Impact Player of the Week after helping the Bulldogs go 1-1 over the week. She averaged 13 points, 3 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1 steal per game. She poured in 15 points with four assists, two boards and one steal in a victory over North Alabama.

Alabama A&M opens SWAC play New Year’s Day as the Bulldogs visit Mississippi Valley State. Tip-off against the Devilettes is scheduled for 4 p.m. and streamed on SWAC TV.
