NORMAL — Two weeks into its 150th anniversary year, Alabama A&M University has raised over $2.2 million in individual gifts toward key priorities during the university’s sesquicentennial celebration.
Themed “Rich Heritage, Bold Future,” the 150th anniversary campaign has a goal of $15 million from individual alumni, friends, and supporters of AAMU.
“The excitement is building for a year that will make a historic impact on our university,” said Vice President Jamal Ali. “From start to finish, 2025 is all about celebrating the rich heritage and bold future of Alabama A&M. We’re hearing from alumni and supporters throughout the nation and abroad wanting to know how they can be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
“The good news is that there’s a way for everyone to take part.”
To reach its $15 million individual donor goal, Alabama A&M is engaging 10,000 supporters to make gifts of $1,500 by December. To date, AAMU has received more than 650 gifts toward the campaign for a total of more than $2.2 million.
“Alabama A&M has been there for us,” said Committee Chairman Robert Holmes. “Now, it’s time for us to be there for this University. This work is an honor for me as one of the thousands who have come to this place and found a home, friendships of a lifetime, and family. Not much time goes by before I encounter fellow Bulldogs in the world – in all fields – doing great things and bringing to life the hopes and dreams of our founder Dr. William Hooper-Councill.
“We must do the work now of ensuring the growth and viability of AAMU for another 150 years.”
Funds raised during the campaign will enable critical investments in campus improvements, STEM infrastructure, and scholarships.
