Alabama A&M’s Gaynor brings home the gold – twice – in SWAC Outdoor Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. — It was a golden day for Alabama A&M sprinter Laila Gaynor.

In fact, it was a double golden day for the junior from Baltimore.

Gaynor continued her dominance in the 400 meters Tuesday during the final day of the  Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships at A.W. Munford Stadium.

With a time of 53.39, Gaynor bested Texas Southern’s Cesley Williams mark of 53.40 to capture gold.

Also, Gaynor was part of the gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team with Victoya Smith, Chelsea Whitehurst and Brianna Samuels. The team posted a season-best time of 3:40.62 and win the race by three seconds over Alabama State.
