Winter weather advisory issued; ALEA closes driver’s license offices

HUNTSVILLE — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of southern Middle Tennessee and much of North Alabama, the National Weather Service Huntsville office announced this morning.

The advisory is from noon today to 6 a.m. Friday. The office said to expect freezing rain accumulations up to 0.05-inch.

In the meantime, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has issued reports on road conditions in North Alabama.

The agency also said driver’s license offices in north Alabama will remain closed today: Marshall County (Guntersville), DeKalb County (Fort Payne), Madison County (Huntsville, Madison, and Redstone Arsenal offices), Marion County (Hamilton) Colbert County (Sheffield), Limestone County (Athens), Jackson County (Scottsboro), and Morgan County (Decatur).

Many roads in north Alabama remain icy and dangerous, ALEA said. If possible, avoid traveling.

  Interstate 65 has reports of icy road conditions

  County roads are deemed impassable.
• Madison County
  Alabama 53 has reports of icy road conditions.
  U.S. 231 has reports of icy road conditions.
  U.S. 72 has reports of icy road conditions.
  County roads in the north part of the county has reports of treacherous icy conditions.
• Morgan County
  U.S. 31 has reports of icy road conditions.
  Alabama 36 has reports of icy road conditions.
  Interstate 65 has reports of icy road conditions.
  U.S. 231 / Brindlee Mountain has road blockage.
  County roads have reports of icy road conditions.
• Cullman County
  All roadways have reports of icy road conditions.
  Alabama 69 South of Interstate 65 has icy conditions with wrecks and multiple disabled vehicles.
  U.S. 278 west of I-65 has reports of icy conditions. Several reports of disabled vehicles.
• Jackson County
  Alabama 79 has reports of icy road conditions.
  U.S. 72 has reports of icy road conditions.
  Alabama 117 near the Tennessee state line has reports of icy road conditions.
  County roads have reports of treacherous road conditions.
  Alabama 73 is barricaded & closed.
• Marshall County
  Most roadways have reports of icy road conditions.
  Alabama 227 near the state park is shut down with barricades.
