Animal Services offers a dog gone good deal

HUNTSVILLE – Citing overflowing kennels and a growing number of at-risk animals, Huntsville Animal Services is slashing adoption fees to just $35 for most adult dogs and cats and $50 for puppies and kittens.

Director Karen Sheppard said those who can’t adopt right now should consider fostering, just to provide an animal a temporary respite from the shelter.

“Our sleepover program is a great way to host a pet while getting to know its positive qualities,” she said. “Taking an animal out of a shelter situation can greatly improve its mental and emotional health. When foster parents provide photos and key information about the animal, it can also improve its chances of being adopted.”

Each adoptable pet is vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and comes with a City license and free bag of pet food. Click here to see photos, ages and descriptions of available animals.

The shelter, at 4950 Triana Boulevard in Huntsville, is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The shelter will be closed Jan. 2 for New Year’s.
