Annual Microwave Dave Day in tune with grand opening of The Lumberyard

HUNTSVILLE — It’ll be a blast from the past.

A return to where it all began.

Or, in musical terms, da capo.

Any way you read it, this year’s Microwave Dave Day will be held at the historic AM Booth’s Lumberyard.

The first Microwave Dave Day was June 28, 2015, in a proclamation by Mayor Tommy Battle celebrating the local singer’s decades of community involvement and the longevity of his music career. The event was held at The Lumberyard on Cleveland Avenue, just off Meridian Street.

On Oct. 13, the celebration returns to the renovated facility and will feature performances from 50 local musicians on three stages.

There will also be a dedicated Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation stage, which will play host to MDMEF music scholarship students.

“Microwave Dave Day 2024 will be bigger and better, and we are pulling out all the stops,” said Jessica Bolling, Microwave Dave Day chairperson. “The Lumberyard has always been about the people, the energy and the celebrations. And that’s exactly what we aim to bring for the 10th Microwave Dave Day.”

There is no charge for admission but donations will be accepted toward the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation to support local music education and student music scholarships.

The Lumberyard is undergoing a complete renovation and will be managed and operated by TVG Hospitality, the same group that runs the award-winning Orion Amphitheater.
Microwave Dave Day will serve as the official opening of the newly renovated event space.
“We are very excited to host Microwave Dave Day at the Lumberyard to kick off our next phase of development into the music and cultural ecosystem of Huntsville,” said Ryan Murphy, general manager of the Orion Amphitheater.
