Arab-based BK Manufacturing lands $28 million Air Force missile components contract

A Marshall County aerospace manufacturer has landed a $28 million Air Force contract to produce components for the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile.

BK Manufacturing Co. Inc., which does business as BK Aerospace, was awarded the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to manufacture wings and fins for the AIM-120X and CATM-120X series of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles, or AMRAAM.

All work under the contract will be performed in Arab and is expected to continue through Aug. 27, 2031.

The Air Force awarded the contract as a sole-source acquisition. No funding was obligated at the time of the award, with orders expected to be placed as requirements arise under the contract’s $28 million ceiling.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia is the contracting activity.

BK Aerospace is a third-generation, family-owned small business founded in 1967. Headquartered in Arab, the company specializes in precision machining, engineering and fabrication for the aerospace and defense industries.

The company operates more than 75,000 square feet of climate-controlled manufacturing space at its Arab facility, including four manufacturing bays and a 12,500-square-foot paint facility.

BK Aerospace has supported major aerospace and defense companies including Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, as well as NASA and the U.S. military. The company also maintains operations at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.

The latest award puts the North Alabama manufacturer into the supply chain for one of the U.S. military’s principal air-to-air weapons.

AMRAAM is a beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile used by the U.S. Air Force, Navy and allied forces. The missile is manufactured by Raytheon, an RTX business, and can be deployed from several fighter aircraft.
