Army CID offers $25K reward in 2013 homicide investigation of Lt. Col. Alonzo McGhee

HUNTSVILLE – The shooting death in of an Army officer at his Huntsville home in 2013 remains under investigation and now authorities have offered a $25,000 reward.

According to a news release, the Huntsville Police Department, in partnership with the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, continues to investigate the 2013 homicide of Lt. Col. Alonzo McGhee, with Army CID offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

On Jan. 4, 2013, around 10:30 p.m., HPD officers found McGhee in front of his home in the Hampton Cove neighborhood. He was shot several times, police said, times through the back windshield of his car.

Since the shooting, HPD’s Major Crimes Unit and Army CID have jointly investigated the case, according to the news release.

McGhee, 44, was a logistics management specialist assigned to the Army Contracting Command Operations Group at Redstone Arsenal.

Despite extensive efforts, including interviews, evidence reviews and leads followed over the years, the case remains unsolved.

“Our investigators are pursuing every lead possible,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “Even the smallest piece of information could help us make progress, and we urge the public to come forward.”
