ATHENS – Making two moves in one day, Athens High School announced two new coaches to its roster. One is already on the faculty, while the other is moving from an old rival.
Tasia Farmer, who has been an assistant cheer coach at Athens since 2019, has been elevated to the top position.
Kori Walker, was the basketball head coach at Decatur, is taking over the same position for the Golden Eagles.
“I am always grateful for the opportunities that God places in my life,” Walker said. “While I am saddened to leave my Decatur High family, I am eager to join the Athens Golden Eagles and start a legacy as head varsity boys basketball coach.
“My family and I are excited to be a part of the Athens community.“
Walker coached the Raiders the past four seasons. He also served as assistant coach at Gadsden State Community College and Gadsden High School and head coach at Cherokee County High, Litchfield Middle School, and Gadsden Middle School.
He is a graduate of Gadsden High and Jacksonville State University, where he earned a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
Farmer, a graduate of Sparkman, has a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from West Alabama. She also earned a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Alabama A&M.
Farmer teaches Career and Technical Education Medical Academy courses at Athens and has served as an athletic trainer.
“I first want to thank the Lord for being so gracious to place me in this role,’’ she said. “I plan to keep the incredible legacy and great traditions going strong. My goal is to strive for excellence, not only on the mat but also in our teamwork, dedication, and leadership in the community.
“I am eager to get started, to share my passion for cheerleading, and to help each member of our team reach their full potential.”
