ATHENS – An economic development a partnership has led to 10 students from Limestone County receiving scholarships to pursue careers in manufacturing, health care, information technology, and construction.

The initiative, created this month by the Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce and the Limestone County Economic Development Association, aims to help students fill the local workforce demand. The $1,500 grants were funded by the annual LCEDA golf tournament at the Canebrake Club of Athens and the Chamber’s Rocket City Trash Pandas outing.

The grant-winners are: Connor Abernathy from Athens Bible School; Bree Higginbotham, Katelyn Graham and Leila Vanderwal of Athens High School; Avery Powers from East Limestone High School; Garron Moore of Clements High School; Paige Robinson, Jacob Lovell and Joshua Freeman from Elkmont High School; and Anna Grace Jones from West Limestone High School.
