Athens-Limestone Hospital has opened a new 25-bed patient care unit, expanding capacity as the hospital works to keep pace with Limestone County’s continued growth.
The new Acute Observation and Infusion Unit will provide dedicated space for patients who need short-term treatment, diagnostic evaluation or additional monitoring without requiring a full inpatient hospital admission.
“Limestone County continues to experience tremendous growth, and Huntsville Hospital Health System is committed to ensuring Athens-Limestone Hospital has the resources and capacity to grow with the community,” said Sam Dean, executive vice president of regional hospital operations for Huntsville Hospital Health System.
Dean called the expansion another investment in providing residents access to care close to home.
The unit is also expected to improve patient flow throughout the hospital, including moving patients more efficiently from the Emergency Department when they need continued observation.
In addition to the 25 beds, the unit will provide outpatient intravenous infusion services, creating a dedicated location for patients receiving scheduled infusion therapies.
“This is about much more than adding beds. It is about making sure we continue to have the right care, in the right setting, for the people who depend on us,” Athens-Limestone Hospital President Traci Collins said.
“Our community is growing, and Athens-Limestone Hospital is growing with it. This investment allows us to increase capacity, improve access and patient flow, and continue providing exceptional care for our neighbors right here at home.”
Athens-Limestone Hospital is part of Huntsville Hospital Health System, a nonprofit network serving more than 1.5 million people across North Alabama and southern Tennessee.
