Athens-Limestone Hospital honored by performance group

ATHENS – Part of the Huntsville Hospital Health Systems’ ever-expanding group of healthcare facilities, Athens-Limestone County Hospital recently received the Alabama Performance Excellence Level 2 Award.

The award recognizes organizations’ quality and performance excellence, according to a news release. This is the second time that Athens-Limestone Hospital has received the honor. The award also recognizes the organization for its progress and improvements to become the best at what they do. 

The hospital was one of two state organizations honored. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Callahan Eye Hospital also received the award.

“I am honored and excited that we have received this prestigious award in recognition of quality and performance excellence,’’ said Stephanie Ritter, executive director of Quality, Education, and Performance Excellence for Athens-Limestone Hospital. “The decision to begin utilizing the Baldrige Framework in 2017 was pivotal in our approach to systematically improve safety, quality, and overall operations. Performance excellence is a worthwhile journey that involves collaboration and participation from our employees, medical staff, partners, and stakeholders. 

“Our mission, ‘Be the Difference’ and vision, ‘Excellence Always’ propels us on this journey through continuous learning so that we provide the highest level of safe, quality patient care and experience, support an engaged workforce, and experience continued growth.” 

The judges provide an audit based upon performance criteria from the Baldrige Excellence Framework. According to a news release, this is a valuable process and affirming award that Athens-Limestone Hospital puts quality and safety first and continues to use effective productivity and quality improvement strategies, techniques and/or practices.

The Award is based upon performance criteria that include

  • excellence in leadership,
  • strategy,
  • attention to customers and other stakeholders,
  • measurement,
  • analysis, and knowledge management,
  • workforce,
  • operations,
  • results of organizational performance.

The Alabama Performance Excellence Program provides organizations with the framework and internal motivation. It recognizes the efforts employees put into doing the right things the right way, for the right Reason.

The ALPEx Award is administered by the Alabama Performance Excellence Program, a nonprofit organization established as a 501(c)(3) and a member in good standing of the national Baldrige Alliance partnership.
