TGIF will be the spring and summer refrain as the Main Street Merchants Alley Happy Hour Music Series kicks off today, April 1, in downtown Athens. Patrons can kickstart the weekend every Friday night through July 29 in the newly renovated alleyway on Jefferson Street from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Attendees will experience a variety of musical acts this summer with a new performer every Friday night and if you come early, you can shop at local merchants before grabbing a meal and a drink in the entertainment district while listening to great local music.

Event chair Jen Baxter encourages all patrons to come and enjoy the live music.

“Throughout these months, we will have such a wide range of talented musicians,” said Baxter. “I encourage all patrons to support these great local musicians and enjoy downtown Athens.”

Steelcase and Representative Danny Crawford (R-Athens) are funding the summerlong event.

Participating restaurants include Athens Alehouse & Cellar, Limestone Legends Billiards, Village Pizza, Lucia’s Cocina Mexicana, Terranova’s Italian, Mozza’s Pizza and Wildwood Deli.
