Boeing presents grants to state colleges, universities

HUNTSVILLE – Boeing, in addition to holding a groundbreaking ceremony in advance of an addition to its Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile seeker guidance system factory, announced recent investments in the state’s higher education initiatives.

The aerospace giant awarded $415,000 in grants for scholarships, maintaining technology labs and supporting workforce development programs at seven higher education institutions in Alabama.

The schools are Alabama A&M University, Auburn University, Calhoun Community College, Drake State Community & Technical College, Tuskegee University, the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

“Growth like (the PAC-3 expansion) can’t happen without two very important elements – meaningful partnerships and dedicated people,” said Chrystal Morgan, director of state and local government operations for Boeing. “… it is my pleasure to recognize both with the announcement of Boeing’s 2023 Higher Education Grant in Alabama. Boeing awarded a total of $415,000 to seven institutions this year, which include universities, HBCUs, technical and community Colleges.”

Representatives from each school attended the news conference that followed the PAC-3 groundbreaking.

“Our state is unique in that we have the right environment and resources thanks to our world class technical and community college system, and four-year institutions plus community and government partners who are committed to growing the future workforce,” Morgan said. “At Boeing, we believe that growing a diverse and robust talent pipeline is key to addressing critical workforce needs in the aerospace, manufacturing, and technology industries and beyond. These partnerships and programs are a key driver of economic growth in our communities.

“Through these impactful investments and robust partnerships, we hope to build and strengthen an industry ready workforce in the US and globally.”
