Breaking new ground: Ditto Landing Event Center to transform Huntsville waterfront

HUNTSVILLE — Calling it a “legacy project” for Madison County residents, Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick joined local officials today in breaking ground for a renovation of the State Docks Building at Ditto Landing.

“These renovations will serve as our legacy project for the citizens of Madison County,” said Riddick, the District Five commissioner.

The $13 million Ditto Landing Event Center promises to usher in a new era of possibilities for the area, complementing Huntsville’s diverse offerings in music events, recreation, and leisure destinations, he said.

“We are excited to introduce this ambitious project, a transformative initiative aimed at revitalizing an existing 2.5-acre space into a vibrant outdoor destination,” said Riddick. Most of the funding for this project will be from his County Commission budget.

“This event center will extend beyond honoring the beauty of its setting along the Tennessee River,” said Brandi Quick, executive director of the Huntsville-Madison County Marina & Port Authority. “It will become a focal point of activity, a space where connections are made, memories are created, and our shared community spirit thrives.

“Thanks to the combined efforts of our community leaders, our customers, and supporters for being part of this exciting journey.”

City Councilwoman Jennie Robinson also spoke; Ditto Landing is in her Huntsville district.

“I applaud Commissioner Riddick’s vision to bring new life to the old State Docks and I am delighted to see this exciting project get started,” she said. “The city of Huntsville is proud to support this endeavor by providing infrastructure, including sewer and additional parking.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the Madison County Commission and the Ditto board, and by working together, we will make the Ditto Event Center project a reality.”

Once completed, the venue can seat up to 415 occupants for a banquet event, with tables and chairs, or space for 790 occupants for a seated concert or conference or up to 900 occupants for a gathering of a standing-only event.

“Ditto Landing is one of the most picturesque locations in Madison County,” said Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon. “The location has many uses and provides a great get away for individuals and families. Commissioner Phil Riddick, the Madison County Commission and the Ditto Landing team are investing in this Ditto Landing Project.

“As Commissioner Riddick has stated, this project is about quality of life, and I totally agree. The project will have upgrades to the property and new venues for the visitors to enjoy and take in the beautiful views of the Tennessee River and all it has to offer.”
