HUNTSVILLE — HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology has grown its Southeast Alabama staff to three with the naming of Ann Marie Carr as economic development associate for
HudsonAlpha Wiregrass.
Carr is responsible for coordinating the Economic Development Mission’s work for the Wiregrass region’s entrepreneurship and recruitment with a focus on agricultural and agtech sectors.
She was the executive director for Southeast AlabamaWorks for the last two years,
working with key workforce, economic and elected officials to meet workforce and economic needs for the 10-county region.
Carr also worked for Wallace Community College and the Alabama Department of Labor
Career Center Systems.
“HudsonAlpha is fortunate to have Ann Marie come on board,” said Carter Wells, vice president of Economic Development for HudsonAlpha. “She has a strong track record of collaboration and bringing people together to improve the workforce in Southeast Alabama.
“With her extensive network within the economic development community, she will add value to HudsonAlpha Wiregrass from day one.”
As part of the collaboration between HudsonAlpha and the city of Dothan, HudsonAlpha
Wiregrass is building and strengthening an innovation economy throughout the region.
HudsonAlpha’s economic impact can be felt across Alabama.
Since its inception in 2008, HudsonAlpha generated more than $4 billion to the state’s
economy, with nearly $1 billion of that coming within the last two years, according to a recent study by the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
“Ann’s experience, knowledge, and contacts will be a huge asset to the HudsonAlpha Wiregrass team, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the HudsonAlpha family,” said Dean Mitchell, director of the HudsonAlpha Wiregrass. “Her ‘can do’ attitude and knowledge of our area will be instrumental in helping build an economy based on science, research and innovation.
“The opportunities to make a significant economic impact in the Wiregrass area are endless, and we look forward to working with Ann to make a difference.”
