HUNTSVILLE – The Pill Hill Run, dormant for 20 years before coming back to life, is set for its third renewal in the scenic southeast Huntsville neighborhood that gave the challenging 10K race its name.
The event is presented by the Huntsville SOF Network and the Huntsville Police Citizens Foundation. It is scheduled for March 30 from 7-10 a.m. Secondary support for the race comes from Fleet Feet and Running Lane.
The 10K took its name from a history of the numerous doctors who called the area home over the years.
According to a news release from consulting business The Company You Keep, proceeds benefit the Huntsville Police Department’s Citizens Foundation Fund that serves the “dedicated men and women in blue during times of need through emergency support, holistic health and education. By participating or sponsoring, you become an integral part of fostering well- being and resilience within our law enforcement community.”
The release continues, “The Pill Hill 10K Run is not just a race; it’s a symbolic challenge designed to mirror the daily hurdles faced by our courageous police officers. The course promises to be the most challenging in Huntsville, offering participants an opportunity to experience the resilience and determination required by those who protect and serve our community.’’
Entry is $35 with a price increase after 11:59 p.m. March 3. Participants can register at https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/Huntsville/PillHill10kRun.
The course starts at Greenwyche Pool on Toney Drive in the Jones Valley community. The route has been described as “utilizing all of the great hills round the Drake and Garth Road intersection.’’
