Court Street Books brightens Shoals literary landscape

FLORENCE — Located just off Court Street in Florence just before you cross O’Neal Bridge, Court Street Books offers a fresh take on book-buying in the Shoals.

From the bright blue trim on the building to the cozy couches and the smell of brewing coffee, Court Street Books is welcoming. Owned by Karmen Somers and Dr. Wayne Melvin, a local pediatrician, the store opened in March.

The independent bookstore carries the newest releases from authors like Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros, and readers can shop Court Street Books online via a partnership with Bookshop.org.

The shop also has a large selection of gently used books, gathered from its book exchange program. Customers can bring books in good condition and trade them for store credit toward purchases of new and used titles.

Court Street Books is also home to Book Clubs, a Writing Group, a Saturday children’s storytime, Stitch & Chat, and many other events. The store also has a meeting room to reserve for events.
