Deadline approaching to submit artwork for Huntsville green spaces

HUNTSVILLE – Arts Huntsville, in partnership with the City of Huntsville and District 4 Council Member Bill Kling, is looking to local artists to answer an open call to help decorate three green spaces within the city.

This is an opportunity to share artistic visions to transform Archer Park, Rose Park, and John Hunt Park with creative flair with 3D artwork, sculptures and murals. The deadline for an RFQ from muralists is Friday.

“These are three calls for sculptures/murals that Arts Huntsville is doing on my behalf, for which I had appropriated money for out of my discretionary funds,” Kling said. “Approximately $15-$17,000 is allocated for each of the three neighborhood Parks within the district.

“Next fiscal year I will be adding Jim Marek Park and Hastings Park to the ‘sculpture trail.’ I want to use my discretionary money to benefit individual neighborhoods within the district and help enhance an appreciation for the arts. Similarly, there is already a sculpture at the Sherwood Park neighborhood park.”

Themes for the parks that will be home to the artwork include:

  • Bring Families Fun to Archer Park: This vibrant community hub seeks a captivating 3D public art installation (deadline: March 15) that sparks imagination and ignites smiles. Let your creativity flow and envision artwork that becomes a joyful centerpiece for this diverse neighborhood.
  • Enchant Rose Park with Whimsical Wonder: Nestled among charming mill-era homes in the Westlawn neighborhood, Rose Park yearns for 3D artwork (deadline: March 15) near its central bridge. This installation should invite peaceful reflection and enhance the tranquil atmosphere of the park, offering residents a touch of artistic enchantment during their strolls.
  • Unleash Artistic Flow at John Hunt Park: Calling all muralists! John Hunt Park’s dynamic space seeks artistic transformation for its utility wall (RFQ deadline: Friday). Proposed artwork should complement the nearby skate park and playground, injecting whimsy, rhythm, and flow to enhance the visitor experience.
