Decatur drug bust nets $1.1M in meth; 4 arrests

DECATUR — A narcotics raid on a Decatur hotel resulted in four arrests and more than $1.1 million in methamphetamine, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said today.

The operation was a weeks-long investigation that dismantled a multi-level drug trafficking organization with direct ties to Mexico, Atlanta, and elsewhere within the United States, the sheriff’s office said.

Agents identified several local people working on behalf of the organization to smuggle and distribute narcotics across North Alabama.

Arrested were:
  • Victor Hernandez, 36, of Austell, Ga.
  • Miguel Aguirre, 28, of Chicago
  • Nicanor Garcia Garcia, 53, of Chicago
  • Priscila Karime Narzagaray, 37, of Atlanta

According to the sheriff’s office, agents with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit, North Alabama Drug Task Force, and Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force – Region F conducted a narcotics operation Sunday at the hotel near Beltline Road and 6th Avenue in Decatur.

During the operation, agents executed search warrants at specific rooms at the hotel after the location was identified as being the site of a narcotics transaction.

Agents located 24.7 pounds (10+ kilograms) of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1,124,000.
The four people were then arrested for trafficking in methamphetamine. Garcia was additionally charged with resisting arrest.

They were transported to the Morgan County Jail where they remain in lieu of $750,000 bond.

Also, three of the people are being held pursuant to Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers, the sheriff’s office said.
