Decatur man, woman die in murder-suicide shooting

DECATUR – A Decatur man and woman died Monday in a murder-suicide, Decatur Police said today.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division said Mathew Ryan Martinez, 38, and Sindy Michelle Masny, 56, died of gunshot wounds. The detectives said Martinez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting Masny.

Just before 8:50 p.m. Monday, Decatur police and Decatur Fire and Rescue responded to the 2900 block of Lynnwood Circle in reference to a welfare check, Decatur PD said in a news release.

Upon arrival, Decatur Fire made entry into the residence after Martinez was seen facedown through a window.

Once inside, Martinez and Masny were found unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn pronounced them dead at the scene. 

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the shooting to be a murder-suicide and the incident was isolated.
