Decatur resident shoots, kills burglar inside home

DECATUR – Decatur police are investigating a shooting death during a burglary over the weekend.

According to a news release, just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of 22nd Avenue. While the officers were responding, the caller advised dispatch that they shot the man. 

When the officers arrived, they found a man inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Police said the alleged shooter cooperated with the investigation and has been released and doesn’t face charges at this time.

The case will be turned over to Morgan County District Attorney’s Office for grand jury consideration.
