DECATUR – In response to numerous speeding complaints, wrecks and fatalities on Beltline Road, the Decatur Police Patrol Bureau initiated a special operation to address the issues.

Called “Beltline Blitz,” the operation ran Sept. 19 to Oct. 11 on the four-lane Beltline (Alabama Highway 67), one of the busiest roads in Decatur.

“Our goal of the operation was to change the behavior of drivers on one of our most traveled roads,” said Decatur Police Chief Torry Mack. “For the past three weeks, our officers have worked diligently enforcing traffic laws on the Beltline to ensure the safety of all drivers.”

During the course of the “Blitz,” officers conducted 568 traffic stops, wrote 246 citations, 172 warnings, and made 4 DUI arrests.

The Decatur Police Department said it plans to continue similar operations across the city when necessary to ensure the safety of our citizens and roadways.
