MADISON — It’s round two for bridge girders to be installed at the Town Madison Interchange on I-565.
Starting Tuesday, motorists on interstate will face detours on several nights during the next two weeks as work continues on the interchange, the Alabama Department of Transportation said.
The eastbound roadway will be closed for the safety of the public while the girders — massive steel beams to support the future bridge decks of the Exit 10 westbound on- and off-ramps — are hoisted into place by crane.
Weather permitting, all eastbound traffic will be detoured between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly, Tuesday through Thursday. Another overnight eastbound closure and detour is anticipated May 28.
The detour for eastbound traffic will be Wall-Triana Highway from Exit 9 to Madison Boulevard to Exit 13. All detours will be limited to late night/early morning hours, when traffic volume is lowest, to minimize travel impacts.
Signal timings on Madison Boulevard have been modified to accommodate the detour, and Madison Police Department will be assisting with traffic control.
