Down on the farm: Trash Pandas host Oat Milkers on Agriculture Night

MADISON – The Trash Pandas will truly be a farm team Thursday night with a pair of promotions on the schedule.

Rocket City is hosting a six-game series with Southern League rival Pensacola this week at Toyota Field, but Thursday night the Trash Pandas will play under the moniker Malmö Oat Milkers.

The Oat Milkers are Minor League Baseball’s newest team brought to the league by Oatly, the world’s first and largest oat milk company.

And, it’s also Agriculture Night at Toyota Field.

Announced during “MLB Tonight”’s March 27 broadcast, the introduction of The Malmö Oat Milkers to the league is part of Oatly’s ongoing multi-year partnership with MiLB. According to a MiLB release, Oatly is the first national plant-based, non-dairy sponsor, and pays homage to its home city of Malmö, Sweden.

All of MiLB’s 120 teams are each playing one game this season as the Oat Milkers – making the Oat Milkers more than just the 121st team of MiLB, but also an occasion for the players to wear non-generic, but also non-outlandish, pink-accented jerseys.

“I think this is a great initiative from Minor League Baseball and the Trash Pandas are excited to be apart of it,” said Logan Bourandas, media relations associate for Rocket City. “It pairs really well with our Agriculture Night, so that day in general should be fun for the staff, players and fans.”

Trash Pandas fans can expect a new first-pitch ritual, trivia, a chance to “sign a contract to be an Oat Milker for a day,” and more. While primarily known for “assuming the identity of a MiLB team,” Oatly also makes a range of oat-based, non-dairy milk alternatives.

Gates for Rocket City’s Oat Milkers game open at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here at tptix.com.
