Downtown Athens restaurants, coffee shops and specialty food businesses are serving up exclusive dishes and limited-time offerings as Athens Main Street launches its annual Downtown Athens Culinary Month on Friday.
Presented by Dream Key, the month-long celebration encourages residents and visitors to explore the city’s growing culinary scene through special menu items, chef-inspired creations and promotions available only during August.
Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson said the event also highlights the continued growth of downtown’s restaurant community.
“In just a little over three years, Athens Main Street has welcomed a dozen new dining options to its downtown district. Our downtown restaurants are the heart and soul of Athens,” Richardson said. “Culinary Month is a celebration of the people, flavors and hospitality that make dining local such a special experience. We encourage everyone to spend August exploring, tasting and supporting the amazing restaurants that help our downtown thrive.”
Organizers say Downtown Athens now offers a wide variety of dining experiences, from Southern comfort food and barbecue to authentic international cuisine, handcrafted coffee, pizza, burgers, tea rooms and sweet treats.
