Downtown Huntsville Inc. events take attendees from tee box to the Moon

HUNTSVILLE – There might be some azaleas and perhaps even a magnolia tree. It’s a tradition like no other. The Downtown Open, played over a mini-golf course around the Courthouse Square, is certainly a unique experience in the Heart of Huntsville.

Green jackets, pimento cheese sandwiches and one of the world’s greatest championships will go down at the Masters on the famed Augusta National Golf Club this week. But from April 18-30, residents and visitors alike can try their skills in the Downtown Open that kicks off the 2024 season for Downtown Huntsville Inc.

There is no charge to play the course, which features creatively designed holes courtesy of local businesses. And for the record, green jackets are dress code acceptable.

This year, the inaugural Putt Putt Party on the Square on April 20 will feature free games, live music and more from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Next on the event calendar will be the Downtown Art Walks showcasing the talents of local artists. With a twist for 2024, some of these events will now take place on Saturdays and some at new times and locations, including Butler Green, with dates running from May to October.

Here are the 2024 dates and locations for the Arts Walk:

  •  May 4: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Courthouse Square
  • June 8: – 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Courthouse Square
  • July 26: 5-8 p.m., Courthouse Square
  • Aug. 17: 5-8 p.m., Butler Green
  • Sept. 21: 5-8 p.m., Butler Green
  • Oct. 18: 5- 8 p.m., Big Spring Park

The Food Truck Rallies will keep their signature date and time – the third Friday of each month from May to October in Big Spring Park.

Returning for the first time since 2018, NASA in the Park is scheduled for June 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Big Spring Park. This free event features over 100 exhibits, vendors, and activities, and is in partnership with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

A new addition to the lineup, “Campus 805 After 5,” will be every third Thursday from May to October at Butler Green. The event will feature live music, food trucks and vendors.
