HUNTSVILLE — Former astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison, the personification of perseverance, will share her story of inspiration next month with the Village of Promise.
The first woman of color to travel into space, Jemison is an entrepreneur, engineer, physician, educator, and humanitarian.
“Dr. Mae Jemison is a leading example of what can be accomplished through hard work, motivation, dedication, and perseverance,” said Village of Promise CEO Dana M. Gillis, adding that Jemison is a true pioneer and visionary who continues to create pathways of lasting legacy for those who will come behind her. “We are excited to welcome Jemison to the Rocket City and invite the community to join us for this extraordinary, inspirational evening.”
The April 23 event, presented by Axient, will be in the Von Braun Center’s Saturn Ballroom from 6 to 8 p.m., with the cocktail reception beginning at 5:30. Tickets are available for advance purchase through April 15. For information and purchasing details, click here.
This is VoP’s seventh Speaker Series event since 2011. The program provides a stage for national thought leaders to share their insight with the Huntsville community through inspirational messaging on a variety of targeted topics from overcoming obstacles, best-practice solutions for addressing generational poverty, motivation, social responsibility, and education.
The nonprofit Village of Promise is a Family Advancement Center and addresses the needs of children and families in distressed, under-resourced neighborhoods. Its mission is to empower local families to advance out of poverty through a multigenerational approach.
