Drought, extreme weather can’t postpone Crawfish Festival plans at MidCity District

HUNTSVILLE – Crayfish.

Crawdads.

Ditchbugs.

Freshwater lobsters.

Mountain lobsters.

Kriddly wigs.

Yabbies.

And, the ever popular, mudbugs.

By any name, they’re a favorite Gulf Coast, Deep South, Louisiana and Cajun cuisine: crawfish.

And despite extreme weather and drought going back to last year – 2024 Mardi Gras was plagued by shortages of the popular crustaceans and the Louisiana governor issued a disaster declaration for the industry in early March – the fourth annual Crawfish Festival at MidCity District will proceed as planned April 20.

MidCity is advertising a total of 10,000 pounds of mudbugs. According to a news release, there will be a limited number of “all you can eat crawfishwristbands for sale. The number is limited to ensure there’s enough crawfish for everyone.

Along with the good tasting food, there will be good tunes from Yonder Mountain String Band, Hot 8 Brass Band, Admiral Phunk and Pat Jamar.

Crawfish isn’t the only culinary option with vendors and other food truck options on site. There will be a full bar with some Camp favorites such as the Hurricane and Tito’s Lemonade. There will be a Kids Zone area with bounce houses and games.

Parking is free. The new festival location is in the grass lawn behind Wahlburgers. Kids 6 and under are admitted free of charge.

Tickets are $25, which include admission, food trucks, vendors, live music and entertainment, and the kids’ zone; and $60, which include all you can eat crawfish, potatoes, corn, and sausage; admission; food trucks; vendors; live music and entertainment; and the kids’ zone.

Single-serving, two-pound crawfish platters will also be available and will include potatoes, corn, and sausage.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Proceeds benefit the Kids to Love Foundation. Sponsors include Bank Independent, Hartman Simons, Kids to Love, Octo Hospitality, the Orion Amphitheater, The Prewitt Group, Renesant, Bud Light, Tito’s and Xfinity.
