Expect late-night traffic interruptions on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect late-night traffic interruptions on U.S. 231/U.S. 431/North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville for overpass construction at Mastin Lake Road.

Intermittent traffic stoppages will take place from about 10 o’clock tonight to 5 a.m. Thursday. For safety, workers will halt all traffic at the intersection for 20 to 30 minutes at a time while lifting bridge girders over the road and into position on the overpass.

During this series of stoppages, the contractor will set six girders — long, horizontal beams that will support the bridge deck. Ten more girders will be installed during the nights of May 27 and May, 28, weather permitting. ALDOT will announce additional dates for girder setting later.

In addition to stoppages, the inside lanes of the Parkway will be closed overnight, as will the intersection with Mastin Lake Road. Mastin Lake Road will be right-in/right-out only.

ALDOT advises planning additional travel time or considering alternate routes. For real-time traffic updates and more, download the ALGOTraffic app or visit ALGOTraffic.com.

The $34 million project includes construction of an overpass and extension of the Memorial Parkway mainline and service roads. ALDOT anticipates completion in about a year.
