‘Extreme Cold Weather Warning’ issued for parts of North Alabama; wind chills as low as minus-10 degrees

HUNTSVILLE — If you don’t have to go out this morning … don’t.

The National Weather Service Huntsville Office has issued an Extreme Cold Weather Warning for Moore and Franklin counties in Tennessee, and Jackson, DeKalb, Marshall and Cullman counties in North Alabama because wind chills are expected to be as low as minus-10°.

The office issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Madison, Morgan, Limestone, Lawrence, Lauderdale, Franklin, Colbert counties in North Alabama and Lincoln County (Tenn.) for wind chills as low as minus-5°. The advisory runs to 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay below freezing into Wednesday afternoon when temperatures rise slightly above 32°, finally reaching the 40s on Thursday, the office said. Overnight lows will be below freezing through Friday night.

A winter storm will affect the Deep South and Gulf Coast Tuesday-Tuesday Night, however it is expected to remain well south of the Tennessee Valley.
