FLORENCE – In time for holiday shoppers downtown, the Tombigbee Public Parking Deck opened Monday.
Mayor Andy Betterton, Florence City Council, and the Florence Downtown Alliance celebrated the opening of the facility at the corner of Pine and Tombigbee streets.
“The Tombigbee Public Parking Deck is a valuable addition to our city’s infrastructure, enhancing accessibility to our vibrant downtown,” Betterton said. “This project reflects Florence’s commitment to growth and to creating a safe, convenient environment for residents and visitors.
“We look forward to seeing our community utilize the new parking resource, especially as we enter the holiday season.”
Construction on the six-level parking facility began last summer. The deck provides 273 spaces for automobiles and 23 spaces for bicycles. It is a cash-free facility; drivers can pay by card at the exit after reinserting the ticket they receive on entry. Parking rates align with on-street parking at 50 cents per hour, with a maximum daily rate of $4.
In anticipation of the holiday season and in support of local businesses, the Tennessee Street parking deck will remain open with free parking until Jan. 1, providing extra parking for downtown visitors, shoppers, and business owners.
The Tombigbee parking deck is equipped with security cameras, and parking attendants will be on-site Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, a 24-hour assistance button is available within the deck to connect users by phone with a representative.
Parking is free on weekends and after 5 p.m. weekdays throughout downtown.
