Forget the I-65 ‘parking lot,’ Allegiant adds nonstop flight from Huntsville to Gulf Shores

LAS VEGAS — Huntsville travelers will soon be able to trade the long drive to the beach for a quick hop to the coast.

Allegiant Air announced today it is adding a nonstop route from Huntsville International Airport to Gulf Shores International Airport as part of a major expansion that includes 30 new routes nationwide.

Allegiant announced in August it was returning to the Rocket City after leaving the market in 2008.

The new Huntsville to Gulf Shores service begins May 21 with introductory one-way fares starting at $39. The flight trims what is normally a six- or seven-hour drive to Alabama’s beaches down to just over an hour in the air, a major convenience boost for families, weekend travelers, and anyone looking to maximize beach time with minimal travel.

“People have asked for a Gulf Shores flight for years, and we are thrilled about having the only intra-state, nonstop commercial service between two Alabama cities,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport. “You’ll spend more time on the beach instead of stuck on the road.

“Now, you don’t have to worry about I-65 traffic – you can just enjoy the trip.”

The Gulf Shores route is one of several additions tied to Allegiant’s growing presence in leisure markets.

“Our mission has always been to connect travelers to world class destinations at an affordable price,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer, in the company’s announcement. “These additions provide convenient options for leisure travelers and reflect our commitment to expanding service where demand is strong.”

Allegiant Air will also operate routes between Huntsville International Airport (HSV) and the following cities:

  • Fort Lauderdale beginning Wednesday
  • St. Petersburg, Fla., beginning March 5, 2026
  • Sanford/Orlando, Fla., beginning Feb. 12, 2026

Tickets for all newly announced routes are now available. Flight days, times and the lowest fares can be found at Allegiant.com.

“We’re excited to welcome Allegiant to Huntsville because they’re bringing exactly what our community has been asking for: New destinations, low fares, and more seats in our market,” said Joey Ceci, board chair for Huntsville International Airport. “The best part is that all four routes they are bringing to us are nonstops.

“No connections, no hassle, just easy, affordable travel to the places people want to go.”
