Foundation 1781 has been spearheading its “Foster the Love” donation drive through April in celebration of Military Child Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month, but they will continue donation drive efforts through May in support of National Foster Care Month.

Donations go to the North Alabama Foster Closet in support of the more than 6,000 children that live in foster care in Alabama, many of whom have no more belongings than can be carried in a paper bag.

Foundation 1781 is a charitable organization founded by Yorktown Systems Group, Inc. in Cummings Research Park. They support foster children by collecting donations of new and gently used children’s items such as clothes, shoes, toys, books, diapers and infant supplies. The foundation has even put together an Amazon Wish List for North Alabama.

“Ensuring organizations providing a hand-up to community members continue to have the resources to do so – this is the focal point of Foundation 1781’s mission,” said Amanda Braun, vice president of Foundation 1781. “The North Alabama Foster Closet plays a pivotal role in supporting the foster, adoptive and kinship ecosystem in our community. Foundation 1781 appreciates all your support.”

The North Alabama Foster Closet exists to clothe, equip, supply and serve families caring for vulnerable children in North Alabama. All donated items are free to current foster, adoptive and kinship families.

Because Foster Closet wants receiving children to feel valued and dignified, they ask that all donations be new or in the same condition as you would provide to your own child.

All donations are accepted through May at Foundation 1781’s headquarters on 350 Voyager Way, Suite 110 in Cummings Research Park.

Foundation 1781 represents a collaborative desire to give back to the community through engagement, education and one-on-one, personal impact.
