First look: Freedom rings in Hays Farm

HUNTSVILLE — Sometimes, the best things are found right in your own backyard.

And that’s the case with the newest project from Huntsville’s Freedom Real Estate – a 54,000-plus square-foot building planned for Commons at Hays Farm.

“We have been a part of South Huntsville since our inception and have been proud to watch its rise in recent years,” said John Roberts, real estate and development manager at Freedom Real Estate. “Major projects like the Memorial Parkway improvements, the  Sandra Moon Community Complex, and the expansion of the Torch Technologies campus have all contributed to this growth.

“With all this momentum, we wanted to continue to play a role in taking this growth to the next level.”

Roberts said his company is always looking for opportunities to partner with good people.

Enter John and Jim Hays, and Jeff Enfinger.

“When we had the opportunity to participate in Hays Farm, we didn’t hesitate to say yes,” Roberts said. “We are confident that this project will be a success, and we are glad to be a part of it.”

Hays Farm is becoming a landmark in South Huntsville. Anchored by a massive retail center, the live-work-play development is growing daily.

But, according to Roberts, there is one element missing from Hays Farm.

“Hays Farm offers a vibrant live-work-play environment, but it was missing one key component: a place to work,” he said. “We analyzed the development and saw that it was the perfect place for a new class A office building.

“With its quick access to Redstone Arsenal, the nine-acre City of Huntsville park, and the lack of other office space in this part of town, we knew we had to jump at the opportunity to contribute to this exciting development.”

The park is adjacent to the new building. The facility will include separately metered utilities, on-site parking and a common lobby with controlled access to each suite.

Though a ground-breaking date hasn’t yet been set, Roberts said marketing is underway and Freedom is receiving a bit of interest for the development.

“(We) have already received interest from several defense-related contractors who see the proximity to Redstone as an excellent location to set up shop,” he said. “We also have received inquiries from non-defense companies who want to be in a class A office building in South Huntsville.”

Typical of the real estate world, Roberts said it’s all location, location, location. And South Huntsville is becoming a go-to spot for businesses and people, he said.

“The exciting thing about South Huntsville is the sense of community,” Roberts said. “Everyone seems to be moving in the same direction, and it’s clear that people care about the future of the area. This is evident in the level of engagement from residents, as well as the leadership of City Councilwoman (Jennie) Robinson, (Madison County) Commissioner (Phil) Riddick, and the South Huntsville Main Business Association.

“There is significant commercial and residential growth happening at a rapid pace, but the area is also experiencing noteworthy improvements in other areas, such as sidewalk and greenway connectivity, improvements at Ditto Landing, the addition of recreational activities, including the Singing River Trail and more. While the large projects like Hays Farm get a lot of attention, it’s the added incremental improvements that help make South Huntsville a thriving community.”
