From soundboards to stage lights, The Orion Amphitheater is giving students the ultimate behind-the-scenes tour of the music world.
Applications are now open for the RNT+ Experience, a free, five-day summer camp designed to give Alabama high school students a hands-on look at careers in the entertainment and music industries. The immersive program returns to The Orion campus in Huntsville this June and is open to students in grades 9 through 12.
Hosted by The Orion Amphitheater in partnership with nonprofit Reach and Teach, the camp introduces students to the wide range of careers that power live events, from sound engineering and stage management to production, hospitality and tourism. Participants will work directly with industry professionals, gaining real-world experience and behind-the-scenes access rarely available to high school students.
“We are excited to partner with Reach and Teach for a second year and to welcome students back to The Orion Amphitheater,” said Laina Mayer, cultural programming manager for The Orion. “Sharing our venue and contributing to their hands-on experience across music, live entertainment and the events industry is something we truly value. This camp offers a meaningful look at the many roles involved in bringing live events to life.”
The RNT+ Experience is free and all-inclusive, covering lodging, meals, training and entertainment for accepted students, removing financial barriers that often limit access to career exploration opportunities.
“This is a great opportunity to meet students where they are and show them what’s possible,” said Johnita Romine, executive director of Reach and Teach. “The experience helps students build skills, confidence and meaningful connections that can turn curiosity into purpose.”
Applications are due by March 23, with acceptance notifications sent on March 27. Students can apply online at reachandteach.rocks/camp.
The program is part of Reach and Teach’s broader mission to engage students who may struggle in traditional classroom settings by offering hands-on, purpose-driven learning experiences that connect education to real careers.
