Garrison announces re-election bid to continue leading Hartselle

HARTSELLE — Randy Garrison, who has served as Hartselle mayor since 2016, announced today he will seek re-election.

In a campaign statement, Garrison said he plans to continue building on the growth, stability, and strong community values that have defined his time in office.

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Hartselle,” said Garrison, a lifelong Hartselle resident. “Together, we’ve made great strides in economic development, infrastructure, and quality of life, while staying true to the small-town values that make this place home. I’m running for re-election to keep that momentum going.”

Garrison, a 1980 graduate of Morgan County High School (now Hartselle High School) and Athens State University alumnus, has brought a deep commitment to transparency, economic growth, and community involvement throughout his tenure.

Elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, Garrison said he is proud of what Hartselle has accomplished in recent years, including strengthened regional partnerships, targeted infrastructure improvements, and continued support for families and local businesses.

Before entering public service, Garrison served 14 years as publisher of the Hartselle Enquirer. His roots in the community run deep, not only as a professional but as a neighbor, church member, and volunteer.

Throughout his time as mayor, Garrison completed leadership and economic development programs through the Alabama League of Municipalities, Auburn University, and the Alabama City County Management Association. He recently served as president of the Alabama League of Municipalities (2023–24) and continues to serve on its Executive and Legislative Committees.

“I believe in servant leadership – showing up, listening, and working side-by-side with others to get things done,” Garrison said. “That’s the spirit I’ll continue to bring to City Hall every single day.”

Garrison and his wife of 39 years, Lynn, a retired engineer from the Marshall Space Flight Center, have two sons and four grandchildren. He is a member of First Methodist Church of Hartselle, where he sings in the Chancel Choir.

He serves on civic and nonprofit boards, including the Hartselle Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, the Hartselle Educator Hall of Fame, and the Decatur Morgan County Community Free Clinic.

“I’m proud of what we’ve done, but I know there’s more we can accomplish — together,” Garrison said. “Hartselle’s best days are still ahead.”

The municipal election is Aug. 26.
