Geeks and Nerds expands operations with $5.3M investment in Cummings Research Park and 100 new jobs

Geeks and Nerds (GaN) is expanding its Huntsville footprint with a $5.3 million investment in a new cutting-edge facility in Cummings Research Park. GaN currently has headquarters in southeast Huntsville with offices and meeting space downtown, but the new location will serve as the new headquarters with space to encourage entrepreneurship and nurture a highly qualified workforce. The new facility will bring 100 new jobs to Huntsville.

Known as the GaN PIE (GaN Prototype Innovation Environment), the initiative will facilitate Huntsville’s ability to meet demand for advanced manufacturing research and development by fostering collaboration between government, industry, non-profit organizations and academia.

Construction is slated to begin next March and is expected to be operational by late June 2024.

“We anticipate exponential demand for research and development of technologies needed for rapid and advanced prototyping,” said Dr. Jonn Kim, GaN founder and CEO. “The pace at which our technologies are moving necessitates the need for revolutionary thinkers and companies to collaborate for the common interest of the country.

“GaN PIE will nurture technological creativity and achievement, increase the business base for highly paid jobs, and foster entrepreneurial energy for missions critical to our community and the country,” he added.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said it’s always exciting to see an innovative, forward-thinking company like Geeks and Nerds launch a growth project.

“The (GaNPIE) project involves $5.3 million in investment and 100 new jobs,” she said. “Our technology sector continues to grow ever more dynamic through entrepreneurial initiatives like this one in Huntsville, and I congratulate the company as it embarks on this venture.”

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said the announcement marks another success for one of Huntsville’s home-grown companies.

“Geeks and Nerds is a rising star in the technology sector, and it’s exciting to see their entrepreneurship rewarded through growth and demand for their services,” he said.

GaN currently offers innovative technology solutions in the aerospace, defense and commercial sectors.

Since its founding in 2004, GaN has been recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as one of the Top 100 Small Businesses in America. The company currently has more than 160 employees in Alabama, Georgia, Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Florida.
