HUNTSVILLE — The Bicycle Safety Advisory Committee at the City of Huntsville is encouraging everyone to take advantage of Bike Month in May and take participate in the many biking opportunities available in the community.
Reminder to all bike pedalers:
- Cash tip your bartenders
- Helmets are a good idea
- Don’t forget your bike lights
- Dress for the weather
- and last but not least – Be safe and Pedal On!
The following coordinated biking events in May are:
Today – Bikes & Brews Ride through historic downtown Huntsville.
Pick up some history during a slow, group social ride around the Huntsville Downtown Depot grounds and downtown Historic Districts.
The Bikes & Brews route is:
- Rocket Republic at 6 p.m., 617 Meridian St.
- Mad Malts Brewing at 7 p.m., 109 Maple Ave. Also, the Nomad Road Dogs food truck will be here that night.
- Green Bus Brewing at 8 p.m., 206 Eustis Ave.
- Old Town Beer Exchange at 9 p.m., 301 Holmes Ave.
Saturday – Mayor Battle’s Bike Ride
Join Mayor Tommy Battle on a four-mile ride through the neighborhoods of historic downtown Huntsville at 11 a.m. in Big Spring Park. The ride begins and ends at Church Street in Big Spring Park, in front of the YMCA building.
May 8 -12 – Bus and Bike Week
Huntsville Transit’s Orbit buses have bike racks so bring your bike and ride the bus for free.
May 15-21 – Bike to Work Week
May 19 – Bikes & Brews Ride through historic downtown Huntsville.
May 23 – Tour de Arsenal
Riders should meet at 5 p.m. at the Marshall Space Flight Center Activity Building, 4316 Digney Road.
May 26-29 – UCI Para-Cycling World Cup
In Cummings Research Park, the first Para-cycling Road World Cup to be hosted in the U.S. is expected to draw more than 300 athletes with their support teams and families.
