Governor Ivey awards $845,151 in grants to help child abuse victims in North Alabama

Governor Kay Ivey has awarded seven grants worth $845,151 to nonprofit organizations that assist victims of child abuse in North Alabama.

“Children who have been abused deserve help with healing and protection from further harm,” Governor Ivey said. “Funding these organizations ensures that children throughout Alabama have access to professional care and assistance in pursuing justice.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“These grants will fund programs that families and communities rely on to care for children who have been victimized,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA stands with Gov. Ivey in support of organizations that offer children a safe harbor and the chance for a brighter future.”

Below are the agencies receiving grants.

DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center. – $159,018 for services offered to child abuse victims in DeKalb County, including personal advocacy, emotional support and referral to other community agencies.

Addie’s Place Child Advocacy Center of Winston County – $83,140 to assist child victims of physical abuse or neglect, sexual abuse and other crimes in Winston County.

Athens-Limestone Children’s Advocacy Center – $165,787 to provide services including assistance navigating the civil and criminal justice systems and help filing compensation claims to child abuse victims in Limestone County.

Walker County Children’s Advocacy Center – $160,144 to assist child victims of crimes including child pornography, domestic violence and human trafficking in Walker County.

Blount County Children’s Center Inc. – $38,513 for a Blount County program providing services to child victims of crimes including child abuse and the survivors of homicide victims.

Morgan County Child Advocacy Center Inc. – $132,727 for assistance including emotional support and safety services for child victims in Morgan County.

The Child Advocacy Center of Marshall County – $105,822 to serve victims of child abuse and related crimes in Marshall County.

ADECA manages a range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
