Gov. Kay Ivey is reminding Alabamians that today is runoff election day, and she has a message for anyone thinking about sitting this one out.
“If you don’t vote, you can’t gripe,” Ivey said in a video released Monday encouraging voters to head to the polls for the June 16 Primary Runoff Election.
The governor urged residents to participate in the election, saying civic engagement remains essential to Alabama’s continued success.
“Good government begins with an engaged citizenry,” Ivey said in a statement. “Every Alabama citizen has a responsibility to make their voice heard at the ballot box.”
Alabama voters will decide several runoff contests after no candidate received the required majority during the May primary election.
In her video message, Ivey pointed to what she described as Alabama’s ongoing economic and population growth, arguing that voter participation helps determine the state’s future direction.
“Alabama is experiencing historic momentum, and you selecting strong leaders will help our state be even more successful in the years ahead,” she said.
Polls statewide will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Voters are required to present a valid photo ID before casting a ballot.
The governor closed her message with a promise to see voters at the polls.
“I’ll see y’all at the ballot box this Tuesday, June 16th,” Ivey said.
Additional election information, including polling locations and sample ballots, is available through the Alabama Secretary of State’s office.
