MADISON — In a sign of the city’s continued growth and expansion, officials with the city of Madison and Madison City Schools broke ground for the school system’s next elementary school.
Once completed, the school will be the eighth elementary school in Madison and the 15th school campus overall.
“This new school is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a reflection of the growth and progress of Madison City,” said Schools Superintendent Ed Nichols. “As others have stated, it is the shining star of this community and is the center of growth for our city. As our district continues to grow, we are committed to maintaining the high standards of excellence that Madison is known for. This new school will help us reduce overcrowding and ensure that each student receives the individual attention they deserve.
“It will become a cornerstone of the community, a place where families gather, lifelong friendships are formed, and children discover their talents and potential.”
The school will serve families in the Limestone County area within the Miadison city limits.
“The school system purchased the land several years ago in anticipation of building a new school to serve the rapidly growing areas of Madison extending across Limestone County,” said John Peck, public relations manager for Madison City Schools. “MCS has worked in partnership with the city and developers on building the infrastructure to support the increased traffic and other growth-related needs.
“Much of the money being used to build the school comes from a 12-mil property tax passed by Madison voters in 2019 for mainly school construction. A portion of that millage increase is also for school safety and security measures across the district.”
The yet-to-be-named school will be at 200 Madison Branch Blvd. It is expected to be open for the 2026-2027 school year.
