MONTGOMERY — A pair of north Alabama airports are among three in the state to receive improvement grants from the Alabama Department of Transportation.
ALDOT announced it has awarded more than $22,000 in state funding to complement funding from the federal and local governments to the three municipal airports. The grants are made possible through ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program.
Posey Field Airport in Haleyville will receive $212,790 from the Federal Aviation Administration and $11,821 from a state grant to rehabilitate the southeast hangar. The City of Haleyville will provide $11,822 in matching local funds for a total value project of $236,433.
The Russellville Municipal Airport will receive $50,130 from the FAA and $2,785 from a state grant to install runway end identifier lights for two of the airport’s runways. The city of Russellville will provide $2,785 in matching local funds for a total value project of $55,700.
Also, the Ozark Municipal Airport will receive $144,000 from the FAA and $8,000 from a state grant to build a corporate hangar. The airport will provide $8,000 in matching local funds for a total value project of $160,000.
The ALDOT program provides financial assistance and other engineering or technical services to airport owners regarding the acquisition, construction, expansion, maintenance, or operation of public airport facilities.
ALDOT said it expects to award approximately $8 million in state funds to Alabama’s local airports during the 2024 fiscal year.
