HUNTSVILLE – Heart of the Valley YMCA is locked and loaded for a week of savings and fun honoring Armed Forces personnel and their immediate families this week during Huntsville’s Armed Forces Week Celebration.
“The YMCA has a long tradition of supporting soldiers and their military families dating back to 1861,” said Heart of the Valley YMCA President Jerry Courtney. “The Heart of the Valley YMCA continues that tradition by supporting our military here at home.
“Relax and reconnect at any of the three locations as our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who serve our country and to their families who support them.”
Madison County businesses and organizations are offering freebies and discounts for members of the military and their families with free daily access for Y members with a valid and current military ID.
Armed Force members will get free admission to the Hogan Family YMCA on Park Square Lane, just off Hughes Road in Madison; at Southeast Family YMCA on Weatherly Road in South Huntsville; and the Downtown Express YMCA on Church Street.
Fees will be waived for those wishing to activate a membership this week, and military individuals and families can enjoy additional savings on membership and camp.
Heart of the Valley YMCA amenities include state-of-the-art fitness centers, sauna and steam rooms, group exercise classes and free Child Watch babysitting at all three branches.
They have swimming pools, teen centers and racquetball at the Southeast and Hogan locations. Admission to the outdoor pool and splash park at the Hogan Y is also included.
Heart of the Valley YMCA provided $80,644 to 3,101 service members and their families in free assistance for YMCA programs and services in 2022.
Local service men and women are also eligible for ongoing YMCA military outreach programs including free membership for families of deployed soldiers; scholarships to YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee for children of deployed soldiers; and no join fees with discounted membership and camp for military families.
Veterans, reservists, retirees and civilians employed with the Armed Forces will enjoy a bang-up time with YMCA guest privileges as outlined in the Heart of the Valley YMCA guest policy.
