Heat advisory issued; temperatures to reach upper 90s as heat indices approach 110

(NWS Huntsville contributed)

HUNTSVILLE — The National Weather Service Huntsville office has issued a heat advisory for North Alabama through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat indices are forecast to reach around 100-108 degrees today and Wednesday, contributing to an increased concern in the first heat wave of the summer, the office said.

The advisory is in effect for all of North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee.

There is little chance of rain through Wednesday to dampen heat concerns, but there is a 30-60% chance of showers and storms by Thursday through the weekend.

Some storms could be strong to marginally severe Thursday afternoon and evening and capable of producing damaging winds across portions of north central and northeast Alabama.

For the weekend forecast, however, heat indices still range between 98-103 Friday through Sunday afternoon.
