Help Burritt name its newest barnyard stars

(Contributed)

Two fluffy newcomers have settled into Burritt on the Mountain, and now the public gets to decide what they’ll be called.

The historic site has welcomed two female Gulf Coast sheep and is asking the public to vote on their favorite pair of names.

The finalists are:

  • DeeDee & Ines
  • Carmen & Pilar
  • Clara & Blanca
  • Rosemary & Alys

You can cast your vote here.

The Gulf Coast sheep are a new breed for Burritt and are believed to be descendants of Spanish sheep brought to the southeastern United States during the 1500s. The breed is considered one of the oldest sheep breeds in North America.

The new arrivals join the collection of heritage farm animals in Burritt’s McCurdy Barnyard, where visitors can also see goats, pigs, horses and chickens while learning about 19th-century farm life.

Perched atop Round Top Mountain, Burritt on the Mountain has welcomed visitors for more than 70 years, combining history, nature and hands-on agricultural experiences overlooking the city of Huntsville.

Voting is now open, giving the public the final say in what the museum’s newest woolly residents will be called.
