HPD seeks person of interest in deadly shooting Sunday

HUNTSVILLE – The Huntsville Police Department seeks the public’s help with an investigation into a deadly weekend shooting.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. last Sunday in the 1200 block of Hobbs Island Road. When HPD officers arrived, they found Kirk Urban, 49, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was immediately transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he later died.
A witness told investigators Urban was in a verbal altercation with a middle-aged white male when shots were fired. Investigators believe the unknown male was swimming nearby with his wife and two children before the altercation took place.
That same witness told investigators the family left in a white, full-size, crew-cab pickup truck.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Major Crimes Investigative Unit at 256-213-4515.
