A Huntsville Police Department investigation into alleged child sexual abuse has resulted in the arrest of a Huntsville man facing multiple felony charges.
According to HPD, the department’s Special Victims Unit launched the investigation on February 26 after receiving a report involving a child victim who previously lived in Huntsville.
Investigators determined the victim and the suspect, Jonathan Paul Taylor, 44, knew each other and that the alleged abuse occurred while both were living in Huntsville.
As the investigation progressed, SVU investigators coordinated with the McLean County Children’s Advocacy Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Authorities obtained a search warrant and secured evidence, which was later analyzed by HPD’s Digital Forensics Team. Police said that evidence helped establish probable cause for multiple felony warrants.
Taylor was arrested Monday, May 4, and booked into the Madison County Jail. He’s facing first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, sexual torture, sexual abuse of a child less than 12, production of pornography involving a minor and possession of child pornography.
Booking information shows bond was set at $5,000 for sexual abuse of a child less than 12 and $2,500 for possession of child pornography, while other charges currently list no bond.
Police noted that charges and bond amounts may change following court appearances.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case and to protect the identity of the victim, police said no additional information will be released at this time.
