Huntsville City FC in market for third head coach this season

HUNTSVILLE – Christophe Berra, we hardly knew ye.

The Huntsville City Football Club’s road trip to the Great Boston area this week to play the New England Revolution in MLS NEXT Pro soccer action will mark the last game for Berra as the interim head coach. Huntsville City FC announced Berra is leaving the team following the match for “family reasons.’’

After playing the Revolution on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (MLS Season Pass on AppleTV ), the Boys in Blue will be under a coach who has yet to be named when they head to the Sunshine State for a road game July 21 at Inter Miami FC 2.

Berra replaced Jack Collison prior to this season’s fifth match April 13 against Crown Legacy FC. Collison was the first coach in HCFC history after being named prior to the club’s inaugural 2023 season.

Berra transitioned into coaching in 2022, serving as a first-team coach for Livingston FC in the Scottish Premiership following his playing career. He made over 560 appearances in Scotland’s and England’s Premier Leagues.

The Boys in Blue (2-9-4-0) are coming off a 1-all draw at home against Carolina Core FC and lost the ensuring penalty kick shootout. Berra led the team to a 2-7-2-0 mark after replacing Collison.

If the club again turns to current staff to replace Berra, Zac Herold is the assistant coach. Also, Fabio Hernandez is goalkeeper coach and Matt Batista is club analyst.

HCFC, an affiliate of the MLS Nashville Soccer Club next plays at home July 27 against Atlanta United 2 at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. Tickets to the match can be purchased here.
