Huntsville extends deadline to apply for Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council

HUNTSVILLE — There’s still time to be part of something big.

The city of Huntsville has extended the deadline to apply for the inaugural Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council to 10 p.m. July 31.

“This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved, grow as leaders and help shape the future of our city,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “We want their voices at the table.”

High school students who are passionate about leadership, civic engagement and making a difference in their community are encouraged to apply for this exciting new initiative.

Led and administered by the city’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council will bring together a diverse group of students in grades 9-12 to learn how local government works, share ideas and serve as a voice for Huntsville’s youth.

Participants will meet monthly during the school year (September 2025-May 2026) and engage in leadership development, public service projects and hands-on learning experiences with City departments and elected officials.

To be considered, students must reside within Huntsville city limits, attend a Huntsville school (public, private or homeschool), and commit to regular attendance and participation.

“These students will comprise a groundbreaking first cohort, paving the way for future youth leaders in Huntsville,” said Office of Multicultural Affairs Director Randy Barbour. “We are incredibly excited to hit the ground running.”
